6:15 PM – Homburg, Germany

6:15 PM – Homburg, Germany

Coleman has been biopsied and initial results indicated that there is no leukemic infiltration of the liver.

There is necrosis, however. More testing on the biopsied sample will follow – but for now, on the good news side, Leukemia as a cause for his liver failure seems to have been eliminated and along with it any discussion of high dose chemotherapy. The necrosis also makes the diagnosis of VOD much less likely.

On the other side of the coin, the doctors still have no real clues as to the cause of his liver failure leaving the doctors without a clear target for which to aim.

One possibility is shock, though some of the markers might contra-indicate this, but is treated similar to his current treatment protocol in any case.

His medical status remains essentially the same as in the last post. Of particular worry to the doctors are his lactate levels. Normally we are below 2 in our bodies, at 7 doctors are very concerned. Coleman is at 14 – again – they do not understand why. Again – the issue is that his organs – most or all of them – are not receiving oxygenated blood. His oxygen level has been raised to 60% - not as bad as he has been, but not a step in the right direction.

Coleman is fighting on, we earnestly covet your prayers accordingly.

  6. Cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you.
    The intagible He holds,
    The impossible He'll do.
Let the mighty hand of Jesus carry you.

  7. We continue to be steadfast with our prayer - there is no such thing as the same old prayer with God - He delights in His children coming to him.

Father - we ask that you quickly reveal the cause for the liver failure and direct the doctors to an appropriate treatment. We THANK YOU for sustaining Coleman, Belinda and Eric through this storm, and for allowing us the privilege of coming before you and praying for them. Thank you for the many believers all over the world who are lifting him up as well.

  9. What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
    everything to God in prayer.

    Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
    In his arms he'll take and shield thee;
thou wilt find a solace there.

  12. Coleman - Keep fighting, you have done great so far and we all know you will pull through this.

Lord- Again we ask that you help the medical staff locate the cause of this illness and have a clear target to attack. You have already provided so many small miracles for this situation. We ask that you continue to heal Coleman's body, give wisdom to the medical staff and comfort to the Hinkefents. We know you are in control and you will provide the answers and the ultimate miracle that we are all seeking to see. Thank you for the many small miracles that you have provided to this point and the many more you will provide as you continue to heal Coleman.

  13. I saw the time of the last post and saw that evening was setting in and I felt compelled to pray for strength and endurance for the two of you as you faithfully care for Coleman. Lord, may you grant Eric and Belinda complete refreshment in what little time they have to actually rest.

As I drove home last night, I heard The Voice of Truth on the radio so I prayed the lyrics for you. As they encourage: take hold of His hand and do not be afraid. Keep fighting Coleman. You have the Great Physician on your team. May His will be done.

Oh,what I would do to have
the kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I'm in
    Onto the crashing waves
To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown
    Where Jesus is,
And he's holding out his hand

But the waves are calling out my name
    and they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
    I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
    time and time again
    "Boy, you'll never win,
    you'll never win."

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
the voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
and the voice of truth says "this is for my glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

    Oh, what I would do
to have the kind of strength it takes
    To stand before a giant
with just a sling and a stone
    Surrounded by the sound
    of a thousand warriors
    shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

    But the giant's calling out
my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
    I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
    time and time again
    "Boy you'll never win,
    you'll never win."

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
the voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
and the voice of truth says "this is for my glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

But the stone was just the right size
to put the giant on the ground
and the waves they don't seem so high
from on top of them looking down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
when I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
    singing over me

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says do not be afraid
And the voice of truth says this is for my glory
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

  16. I may never march in the infantry
    Ride in the cavalry
    Shoot the artillery
I may never fly o'er the enemy
But I'm in the Lord's Army, Yes Sir!

Coleman, I couldn't help but think as I watched the number of people visiting this site and praying for you march toward the 10,000 mark that we are the Lord's Army. He has called us to arms on your behalf and we are putting on his armor.

"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints...."

    Ephesians 6:10-18

Coleman, God has fought and won battles, taking down nations, with armies much smaller than this. This army will not fail you, we will continue to fight and pray while you cannot.

Army Strong is one thing, but God's Army Strong is another.

    Love you,
    Rochelle

  17. i had several thoughts after prayer for coleman. god, as ruler of all creation, determines authority around us as we seek him. the verse is something very like, 'and he shall overturn until he come whose place it is.' what this means to coleman, and to all of us, is that it is right to expect that someone has been placed there at the hospital to be of help to him and his beloved family and to help him accomplish what god has set before him as his work at this time. so we need not fear--just as so many of us have things we love to do and have had opportunities placed before us, so god has placed such an individual to help coleman and his family, even before he arrived. you may confidently look for this person (or may even have found them already!), since we have god's promise that he has put them in place. as i read the tender words of so many on this page, i am also reminded that 'the fervant prayer of a righteous man availeth much.' god hears us, and being only good, will do only good. 'in him we live and move and have our being'--of this we may be sure. finally, i remember one other thing: man is often mistaken; god never is.

may his tenderness and strength bring all of you peace and energy for this labor of love,

  18. Keep going Coleman! Never give up. We are gonna win this. God bless.

"Heavenly Father, You are intimately aware of the struggle Coleman is experiencing -- the pain and the despair. You know the desire of our hearts for him to be healed of this illness. We ask now for Your healing touch. We know that You are able and that just like in Bible times, You can heal him.

“We also understand that You will chose what is best for Coleman. We pray that through this trial, we will draw close to You -- that You will be our comfort and strength. We pray that ultimately, whatever happens, You will be glorified through all of us. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.”
